Will Johnson

Momentum Baseball Founder and Lead Coach

Will Johnson, known by his teammates and peers as “Wojo”, is a former professional and collegiate baseball player and over the past four years has transitioned to scouting and player development roles with the MLB Draft League, LA Dodgers and most recently  the Baltimore Orioles. He is a baseball lifer who has devoted himself to working on his craft and, at this point in his career, giving back the knowledge he’s gained to the next generation of ball players.

Will hails from Atlanta, GA. He went to North Atlanta High School where he played varsity baseball for four years, lettered 2 years at Georgia State and 2 years at Eastern Kentucky, where he was ranked in several national and conference offensive statistics. He went on to play in multiple independent leagues including the USPBL in Utica, MI, where he was a two time All-Star and participated in the home run derby his final year. He ended his playing career in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball with Gastonia in 2022.

During his professional experience, Will has performed in multiple roles across the industry. In scouting he identified and evaluated talent across the nation; in player development he works with hitters and outfielders; and in tech coordination he collects and monitors Trackman and other metrics key to assessing, creating and implementing athlete development plans throughout a season. He also owns Momentum Baseball, where he provides data insights with cutting edge tech and player development plans to the high school, college and pro level.

His goals for this part of his career are to give back his knowledge, push the game forward while still maintaining/teaching the traditions and foundational aspects the game was built on, and finally expanding access and awareness to the ever evolving analytic/data landscape that has made its way into our game and is no doubt here to stay.
